My all-time favorite mantra is the Mangala Charan mantra or the mantra of protection. If you have attended any Kundalini Yoga and Meditation classes, you will be familiar with the mantra of protection that is chanted three times following the Adi Mantra.
“Aad Guray Nameh, Jugaad Guray Nameh, Sat Guray Nameh, Siri Guroo Dayvay Nameh”
For the last sixteen years, not only have I been chanting this before my early morning sadhana practice, classes, and videos—I have also been using this powerful mantra off the sheep skin too. For example, I have been chanting this mantra three times before I drive a car or bicycle or am about to embark in someone else’s vehicle.
The ancient yogis teach us that there is no such thing as an accident. It is simply a collision of time and space. So by chanting this mantra you buy yourself nine seconds of time and nine feet of space so that you are not there for the collision!
Through the vibration of these sacred sounds it creates additional protective light that surrounds your aura. This mantra also opens you up to your intuition.
Each human being has an inner guru which is guiding them through time and space. This mantra is a recognition of that guru and it is humbling the ego before this internal wisdom. In essence, you are giving your worries and fears to the Divine so that you can relax, be you and move through the world with an open heart. If you are fearful of what may happen to you then it is impossible to be you and you rely on the worst life coach in the world: the ego.
I have also been listening to this mantra in my home on repeat for many months at a time. I also listen to mantra on my iPod when I am sleeping at night because I feel safe and cozy and can really surrender into Divine Energy to recharge and replenish myself. Listening to this mantra feels like wrapping myself in a warm fuzzy blanket on a cold night. Most times when I awake the mantra is repeating by itself in my mind which is much better than the ego barking out its to do list for the day.
I have also practiced the Kundalini Yoga Meditation for Protection and Projection of the Heart using this mantra. In fact, after sixteen years I feel completely merged with this mantra—so much so that I have claimed it as my Pran Sutra. The Pran Sutra is the mantra that you want on your lips at the moment of death to help guide you to the Infinite.
So when that person cuts me off in traffic or an experience creates fear in me, the first thing out of my mouth is not cussing but the mantra of protection. After I chant it, I immediately relax again back into my Self.
This mantra now sits in my subconscious mind like a lotus. It’s become so automatic that I don’t think about it anymore. Since embracing this mantra I have not attracted any car accidents, violence or harmful experiences.
This is an important mantra to have in your toolkit in this time of great chaos where the world can seem very dangerous. Start today! Chant this mantra three times and give your fears and worries for your safety to the Divine. Keep your heart open and then spread your love and peace to all the people you meet.
Your experience is important!
