3HO-TOGO HISTORY

Siri Gyan Khalsa is the first American who introduced kundalini yoga in Togo in the early nineteen-eighties. He arrived in Togo as a Peace Corps member, and he was appointed as an English teacher at Lome University.   He started sharing the Teachings with Togolese students. In 1984 3HO-TOGO was officially established.

I entered University in 1986 and quickly joined the community of yogis.  In 2005, while I was president of our Association, I heard about one of Yogi Bhajan’s disciples visiting in Accra. I travelled to Accra and attended the first training that Krishna Kaur gave. After the training, she came back with me to Lome, and she stayed with us for 3 days.

In February 2006, Krishna was back in Lome for the first Kundalini Yoga Teacher training in Togo. Three other L1 trainings followed in Togo, one in Burundi and three modules of L2. In 2007, we organized the first Africa Kundalini Yoga Festival in Accra, followed by 4 others in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2018 in Togo.

Reelected president of our Sangat in 2018, I was nominated Leader of KRI, Sikh Dharma, and 3HO-TOGO in Togo and the sub-region by 3HO International.

Since then, we hold the space and organize all the activities with other colleagues. We have sadhana every morning in our studio.  3 to 5 students come.

We offer 4 weekly kundalini yoga classes to a group of 7 to 13 regular students. Plus some others who join less regularly. In total we’re almost 30 to 45 members.

Every 2 months, or once in the term, we organize an intensive yoga day at the beach or at the lake Togo and once in the year a yoga retreat far away from Lome in the forest.

A festival is scheduled every 2 years, but since 2018 we haven’t organized any. We are planning it for the near future.
