Meditation for Radiance: Wahe Guru Pranayama

This simple kriya is meant to produce a radiance that will carry you through to Infinity. It’s a breath meditation on the trikuti mantra Wahe Guru, a mantra for ecstasy and the remembrance of God at work. Realize the Infinity carried by the breath, and imbue Wahe Guru in each cell, like you are an ocean of sound and every cell is a bell that is vibrating.

The Practice

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose.

Mudra: Place each thumb on the Mercury mound (the pad of the palm right underneath the pinkie finger) then close your other fingers over it in a fist. Place each fist in the opposite armpit with the right arm over the left. You should be able to feel pressure on your fists. Bend your head down so that your chin is on your chest.

Eyes: The eyes are 1/10th open.

Breath: Inhale and mentally vibrate “Wah” (about 2 seconds). Hold and mentally vibrate “Hay” (about 2 seconds). Exhale as you mentally vibrate “Guru” (about 4 seconds).

Start with 3 minutes and gradually increase practice to a maximum of 11 minutes.

Comments:

Your thumbs may become hot during practice. If the heat becomes too intense, straighten your arms and place your hands on your knees, still in fists, and continue. Keep the hands in fists until they cool down before you open the hands.
