Develop Your Pranic Energy

This is a powerful exercise to develop your pranic energy and remove tension. It is a 5 minute meditation at most. Do not exceed 5 minutes – that’s all it takes.

The Practice

Posture: Sit in Easy Pose with the spine straight.

Mudra: Interlace your fingers and rest your hands comfortably in your lap.

Eyes: Keep your eyes open.

Breath: Purse your lips and push them out, making them into a straw through which you can suck in air. Continuously inhale through the mouth in powerful, rhythmic strokes (1 second per stroke).

Continue for 5 minutes maximum. To end, inhale deeply and calmly hold the breath for 30 seconds. Exhale and relax.

Comments:

Don’t worry about the exhale; it will come on its own. The idea is to overload the body with prana. If possible, keep your eyes open and do it with your full strength.

The mind may doubt that the body can continuously inhale for five minutes without a conscious exhalation. Take your time and find your own rhythm. The inhalation is similar to sucking a thick milkshake through a straw. We take in powerful bursts of air through the mouth, and this creates a rhythmic beat at the thoracic diaphragm.

This kriya was originally taught on December 12, 1983 and can be found in Praana Praanee Praanayam.
